Introduction
Brett Rainbow has been involved with basketball in Australia for over 20 years. He has played at the highest level and has an outstanding player career having been a member of the Melbourne Tigers team and the NBL Slam Dunk champion three years running. He was also the first Australian player selected to play professional basketball in China. In 1999, Brett took his passion and fervour for the game to the next level and began his one on one coaching career and subsequently launched his Tomorrows Stars Basketball Program. In 2007, Brett worked as the Basketball Co-ordinator at Fitzroy Secondary College. He currently runs the entire basketball program at Melbourne Girls Grammar, from grade prep-grade 6 and coaches over 60 children One on One each week.
Brett's business, Tomorrows Stars Basketball, has been designed to bring out the best in children: increased respect for sportsmanship, development of strong physical athletic abilities, a deeper understanding of teamwork with emphasis on lifelong skills such as values, self-esteem, goal setting and making good-quality responsible choices. Children aged 8-18 are already experiencing the benefits of a healthier lifestyle through basketball training, games and camps.
For the ongoing development of basketball, Tomorrows Stars Basketball Program ranges from school teams, One on One personal training sessions, NBL Behind-The-Scenes tours and the highly popular school holiday basketball camps conducted in the metro region, surrounding suburbs and country community areas.
Our Aim
Our aim is to provide children with quality health and fitness training through the sport of basketball via our One on One training sessions and holiday camps in a fun and invigorating environment. The welfare and long term development of young peoples’ understanding of the impact of good healthy choices, a positive attitude and team work is a priority in our program.
One on One Training
Currently around 60 players each week take advantage of these one hour sessions conducted at convenient locations around Melbourne. Players of all levels improve their game through individual and small group training sessions. Brett works closely with each player and their parent/s to develop and implement training programs that provide tangible results. Helping players to develop ball handling, shooting, defensive/offensive footwork, passing and rebounding are some of the elements focused on during these sessions.
As coordinator of Melbourne Girls Grammar school's entire basketball program from prep-grade 6, Brett conducts training sessions and coaches three teams that play each week during the school term at MSAC.
One on One training sessions are intense, fun and invigorating allowing each player to gain necessary skills and experience at their level and the ability to push forward and become the best player they can be.
A new addition to the one on one program, and for players wishing to go the next step, Brett conducts gym and fitness sessions for players and their families to assist with exercise and diet regimes; an integral part of any aspiring athlete’s program.
Basketball Camps
Tomorrows Stars Basketball conducts a 2 day camp during each week of the school holidays at various venues throughout the year. The camps are run specifically to cater for children aged 5 – 15 years with various skill and agility levels. It is important to evaluate skill levels & determine what goal's children want to achieve as players. Since everyone's goals are different, the camps are designed to give each player the individual attention needed to improve their basketball knowledge, skills & fundamentals which will take their game to the next level.
The camps focus on identifying weaknesses, developing strategies & drills in a group workout that will improve & eliminate each weakness while strengthening existing ability in order to meet individual goals.
Tomorrows Stars Basketball camps & private training sessions are a great motivator for children to get involved in a program, which will ensure they are one step ahead of their opponents.
The school holiday Basketball Camps across Melbourne/ Victoria currently helps over 1000 children aged 5-15yrs per year develop their basketball skills.
Yearly Behind-the-Scenes NBL Tour
January 2008 saw the launch of Tomorrows Stars inaugural NBL Tour. A small group of lucky children experienced NBL games in 3 capital cities (Melbourne, Gold Coast and Adelaide) and watched some great basketball games up close.
The children took a behind-the-scenes look at 3 NBL teams, attending training sessions of the Melbourne Tigers, Gold Coast Blaze and Adelaide 36ers. The children watched the teams go through their training drills and game plan, and were lucky enough to meet the players afterwards for autographs and photos.
The trip also involved lots of other activities, including time at the beach, 2 different theme parks on the Gold Coast and plenty of sightseeing.
Our vision for the future is to incorporate an overseas trip into our tour program and give players the opportunity to experience the great game of basketball in countries such as the USA and China where Brett has previously played professional basketball.
